Blue Cedar | Hand-Cast Cedar Burl & Acrylic Bolt-Action Pen

Blue Cedar begins before the lathe ever starts turning. Cedar burl pieces from the Perfect Imperfections workshop were individually arranged and hand cast in brilliant blue acrylic, creating the one-of-a-kind hybrid blank that became this pen.

Deep blue acrylic flows around the natural cedar burl, preserving knots, edges and small islands of wood beneath the polished surface. Depending on the light and viewing angle, the blue shifts from darker tones to an almost electric glow while the warm cedar remains visible underneath.

The finished blank was individually turned, shaped and polished before being paired with a black-finish bolt-action pen mechanism. The working bolt-style action gives the pen a rugged mechanical character that complements the contrast between natural wood and vivid acrylic.

Because both the burl and the hand-casting process develop their own unpredictable patterns, this exact combination cannot be duplicated. Another Blue Cedar could be made, but it could never be this Blue Cedar.
